REPORT – Some, deputies or anonymous, took up arms. Others have chosen to help a frightened population, holed up in underground shelters, or have turned into war doctors. We met them.

In her little shelter dug in the ground and surmounted by a tarpaulin, Tetiana Chornovol watches over the horizon. This former journalist, who became a deputy and then a soldier, commands a handful of men in a strategic position north of kyiv. Its role: to fire on the enemy tanks which advance, in this month of March, on the capital. “So far, I’ve knocked out two”, welcomes this sunny young woman, who constantly displays a big frank smile.

AT 42 years, Tetiana Chornovol is used to fighting on different but equally perilous fronts. As an investigative reporter, first: in 2013, she was the victim of an assassination attempt after the publication of investigations revealing corruption cases involving members of Viktor Yanukovych’s government.
