Despite the canceled cooperation with the Russian car manufacturer GAZ: “Order situation so good that we will be able to keep all 2100 employees,” says Steyr Automotive owner Siegfried Wolf

The entrepreneur Siegfried Wolf has commented for the first time on the future of the former MAN commercial vehicle plant in Austria. Wolf had bought the factory from the Volkswagen Group in mid-2021 in order to establish a contract manufacturer there. “The order situation is so good that we will probably be able to keep all 2,100 employees,” Wolf told WirtschaftsWoche. Shortly after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Wolf ended a cooperation with the Russian car manufacturer GAZ. The consequences for the plant, which is now known as Steyr Automotive, are minor. “The plant is well utilized, we are on schedule,” Wolf told WirtschaftsWoche. In the next 1.5 years, for example, the company will “continue to do contract manufacturing for MAN”. And: “We also manufacture buses that are 6, 9, 12 and 18 meters long. We also have a large order from Volta Truck.” The plant produces electric trucks for Volta. “I’m still looking for an alternative solution for the small order from GAZ,” Wolf told WirtschaftsWoche.
