Nuevo León maintains solar sub-leadership in the country

During 2021, Nuevo León (NL) reaffirmed and maintained the second place at the national level in Distributed Generation contracts, commonly known as solar panels, according to an analysis by the Nuevo León Energy Cluster (CENL).

The study that uses figures from the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), indicates that last year -2021- the number of interconnection contracts entered into with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) in the entity closed at 29 thousand 177, which represented a structure of 220.52 MegaWatts (MW) of installed capacity. The installed capacity is the production potential or maximum volume of production that a particular company, unit, department or section; can achieve during a given period of time, taking into account all the resources they have available, be it production equipment, facilities, resourcesThe number of contracts in Nuevo León grew 28.8 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, and generation increased 25.3 percent, registering a slowdown compared to the advance of 2020 when they increased 69.4 and 52.2 percent, respectively, responding to the uncertainty generated for the presentation of the electrical reform of the Administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).At the national level, Nuevo León contributes 10.8 percent of the contracts and 10.9 percent of the installed capacity, which at the end of 2021 stood at 270.5 thousand contracts and 2 thousand 31 MW of capacity.According to preliminary information from the CRE, the municipalities of Monterrey, San Pedro Garza García, and San Nicolás de los Garza lead the number of solar panels in the entity with 8,512, 3,418, and 1,619, respectively. All localities in the entity reported at least one solar panel contract, although they are highly concentrated in the metropolitan area.Only six entities in the country have a generation capacity greater than 100 MW, in addition to Nuevo León there are: Jalisco, Chihuahua, State of Mexico, Guanajuato and Mexico City. And in number of contracts, they stand out with more than 20 thousand, in addition to the entity from Nuevo Leon, Jalisco and Chihuahua.
