TRADE: The store of Praktiker in Agia Varvara operated with obstacles on December 3 & 4 due to the festival organized by the homonymous municipality, in the context of its religious holiday Saint Barbara. Carpets of all kinds and sizes had blocked almost one entrance, on El. Venizelou. Of course, the customers had access from Iera Odos, but this entrance serves two more companies operating in the shopping square, Sklavenitis and McDonald’s. In fact, the consumer movement due to the festival increased the traffic, especially in fast food. It does not appear to have favored the household equipment company, however. Although this particular Praktiker store has been operating since 1993 – it is the 3rd in the chain -, every year on such days it has to manage challenges due to the festive two-day event accompanied by a commercial event for the area. This year, the rainy weather did not discourage the local traders, Roma and non-Roma, who had exhibited their goods -mainly carpets- along El. Venizelou, from No. 42 where the church is located, to Iera Odos . LOGISTICS: Mobility in the field of logistics, which due to the pandemic have taken over. There, as the column learns, there are three deals . One of them brings one of the biggest “players” in customs clearance, export and transport of temperature controlled products, based in Patras, to be in advanced contacts with an interested investor. The sources of the column insist that the deal is in closure – the usual suspect, CVC, denies, the management of the parent company is keeping silent radio – and will reach the 50 million euros . The company, founded in 1991 in Patras and has more than 10,000 trucks through which it transports food, medicine, temperature controlled products to and from Europe, is not the first time it has been hit by investors in the last two years. Just as the people of Jerusalem say, now is the time to leave, because the successors do not seem to be interested … The main but not the only customers of the company are the whole sector of fish farming , with the company having 5 logistics centers in: Patras (2), Aspropyrgos, Igoumenitsa and Thessaloniki. Last year, its turnover increased to 33.345 million euros from 27.888 million euros and net profits rose to 3.9 million euros from 2.443 million euros in 2019. PEPCO: The Polish company, which is preparing its debut in the fall of 2022, has plans for Greece. It is one of the largest chains in Europe. If she did not have so many clothes in her portfolio we would say that it is something like Jumbo for Poland, since the brand is famous for children’s items and small things and home decorations. It will hire 120 employees in Greece , in the first phase, and is looking for commercial properties of 350 – 650 sq.m. in malls and cities with over 20,000 inhabitants. The chain of discount stores, which offers clothes for the whole family and other products at low prices, has more than 2,500 stores in Europe. In total, together with the stores of the retail brands Poundland and Dealz developed by the Pepco Group, it has a presence in 20 countries .
